A Gynecological Oncology Surgical Unit and a Women’s Sub Fertility Unit have been established at the German-Sri Lanka Friendship Women's Hospital in Karapitiya.
The ceremony was held yesterday and Gynecologist Dr. Deepani Jasinghe, who was the incharge of Women’s Sub Fertility unit present at the event . She said that this is the first Women’s Sub Fertility Unit in Sri Lanka. She pointed out that this new unit will provide immense benefits to women in the Southern Province and several other areas.
A Gynecological Oncology Surgical Unit built under this program was also opened yesterday and Specialist Dr. Kelum Jayasinghe is in charge of the unit.
He said that with the current facilities, a maximum of 15 gynecological surgeries can be performed per day and this can be increased to a large extent after the opening of the new surgical unit. He said that about 100 patients from the Southern Province and Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces receive treatment at the gynecological unit almost every day.
