The management has decided to close the Sevanagala unit of Lanka Sugar (Private) Limited until further notice.
The company said in a statement that this step was taken with the aim of minimizing the financial loss to the company due to the strike by the employees.
A group of employees at the Sevanagala unit had gone on strike from 2.00 pm on the 25th and to prevent any financial loss, the Sevanagala Sugar Company said that employees other than those performing essential services were given leave on the 26th and 27th to prevent any financial loss. Although attempts were made to resume production yesterday (28), the management has decided to close the factory indefinitely due to the employees' decision to continue the strike.
