Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, says that some political parties in the North and East are misleading the people and creating unrest among them. He urges the people to act wisely as the aim of this group is to achieve their narrow political goals.
The Minister said this while participating in a special media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (17).
Five unauthorized persons have entered the camp of the 12th Lions Regiment located in Mutthayankattu, Sivanagar in the Oddusan area of Mullaitivu, and the army has taken steps to expel them. While expelling these persons, one of them drowned in the Mutthayankattu tank in Mullaitivu.
Accusations have been made by certain parties regarding an assault on the person who drowned, and accordingly, three soldiers who were arrested have been remanded after being produced in court.
The Minister pointed out that certain political groups are trying to gain advantage by distorting the facts of this incident by claiming that the army had killed a civilian.
