It is reported that in many hospitals across the island, patients receiving inpatient medical treatment are being given diagnosis cards with medical instructions to go home after the completion of their medical treatment.

Commenting on this, Specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, Chairman of the Medical and Civil Rights Doctors’ Trade Union Alliance, said that patients coming from remote areas and their relatives are reportedly facing severe difficulties due to these delays.

Although specialist doctors in the morning announce that patients who have received inpatient medical treatment have completed their inpatient medical treatment and can go home, he points out that since diagnosis cards are often received by these patients at 5 or 6 pm, critically ill patients who come from remote areas face severe difficulties in renting vehicles or using transport services to go home.

Since many of these hospitals also have interns, patients who have completed their inpatient treatment in the morning can go during the day and patients who have completed their inpatient treatment in the afternoon can go during the evening, he points out that patients will not face these difficulties if the Ministry of Health takes steps to take specific administrative decisions.

He also points out that when it is necessary to take a disabled or critically ill patient who has recovered to a certain extent home, the patient's relatives hire a vehicle at a high cost, and keeping such people near the hospital for a long time causes severe financial hardship to the patients and their relatives.

He also points out that this situation should be brought to the attention of the directors of each hospital and discussed with the specialist doctors in charge of the relevant units and a specific program should be prepared.

He also says that by making patients wait in hospitals in this way, the general public is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the health administration.

Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa further states that the President and the Minister of Health should pay urgent attention to this situation.
