India's Tata Group, which supplies batteries for its Jaguar Land Rover factories, is planning to construct an electric vehicle battery factory in Britain.

The plant is poised to become Britain's largest foray into the car gigafactory space, as it endeavors to keep pace with the US and the European Union in the race to develop green industries, according to the company's statement.

Tata announced on Wednesday that it would establish its first gigafactory outside India in Britain, with a £4 billion ($5.2 billion) investment, generating up to 4,000 jobs and initially producing 40 gigawatt hours.

Currently, Britain lags behind its European rivals in building planned electric vehicle (EV) battery gigafactories across the EU, with only a small Nissan factory currently operational in the country.
